A prominent South Carolina attorney, whose wife and son were killed in June, stepped out of the powerful law firm his family helped build and said he was in rehab.
The announcement comes after Alex Murdaugh was shot in the head on Saturday.
South Carolina state police confirmed that he called 911 on Saturday to report that he was shot in the head and rushed to hospital with superficial injuries. Media reported Murdaugh changing a tire at the side of a country road in Hampton County.
In a statement released Monday by a public relations firm, Murdaugh said he had “faced a long battle through the murders of his wife Margaret” Maggie “Murdaugh, 52, and the couple’s youngest son, Paul Murdaugh, 22 was tightened “. .
“The murders of my wife and son created an incredibly difficult time in my life. I’ve made a lot of decisions that I really regret, “said Amanda Loveday of NP Strategy, a Columbia, South Carolina public relations firm, said in a statement.
“I am stepping down from my law firm and entering rehab after a long struggle that was exacerbated by these murders,” the statement said. “I feel immensely sorry for everyone I have hurt, including my family, friends, and co-workers. I ask for prayers as I rehabilitate myself and my relationships.”

Loveday did not immediately respond to questions about the location of the rehab facility or the nature of the program.
Meanwhile, on June 7th, Maggie and Paul Murdaugh were not arrested on their Colleton County hunting estate. Both victims were shot multiple times and discovered by Alex on the ground outside the family’s dog kennel in Colleton County, Coroner Richard Harvey said.
The murders have sparked international media coverage and sparked countless social media discussions, podcasts and upcoming television documentaries.
Murdaugh is the son of the late Randolph Murdaugh III, a former 14th Ward attorney, as did his father Randolph Jr. and grandfather Randolph Sr. before him. For more than 85 years, this trio served as the lead prosecutor in the five-county Lowcountry region.
In 1910, Randolph Sr. founded a law firm in Hampton which grew into Peters, Murdaugh, Parker, Eltzroth, and Detrick PA, where Alex Murdaugh practiced. Several generations of Murdaughs serve as attorneys at the Personal Injury Law Firm, whose website lists millions of comparisons that have been restored for their clients.
Since the murders, Alex Murdaugh and his surviving son Buster have offered a $ 100,000 reward for information leading to an arrest or arrest and conviction.
The Murdaugh family was already in the regional spotlight after the February 2019 boat crash in Beaufort County, in which the 19-year-old Mallory Beach died. Paul Murdaugh was charged with three boating charges and was waiting for the lead when he was killed. He had pleaded not guilty on any point.
Alex Murdaugh and others are still facing a civil wrongful death lawsuit filed by Beach’s mother Renee on behalf of Mallory’s estate.
