Michigan’s Best Local Food: The Tasty Spoon Food Truck Brings the Soul

JACKSON, MI – Vincent and Dolly Weatherspoon were looking for something they could do together.

So the food truck Tasty Spoon was born. The couple, parents of 13 children, started the business in May and served barbecue and soul food. The children help out with the business when they can.

Rib tips, macaroni and cheese, and peach cobblers are the most popular items on the menu, Dolly said.

“We cook on the ribs and ribs for five hours,” said Vincent. “We have two smokers, one for chicken and one for pork.”

The couple found the new business challenging.

“We can’t really keep up,” said Dolly. “We learn and it’s a lot of fun, but also a lot of work.”

Vincent, who recently retired from trucking, is happy with the community’s response.

“The nice thing about it is meeting more people,” he said. “I like to see the smile. It’s so warming. You feel so good there. “

The food truck drives to special events and is available for catering. When events aren’t busy, the truck can often be found on the corner of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Ganson Street in Jackson serving ribs, chicken, and all side dishes.
